Our History

Metallurgical Training Institute is a Parastatal under the Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel Development. The institute is mandated to train Nigerians in the area of maintenance engineering with the aim of fast-tracking technological development in Nigeria. Our Vision

To develop highly skilled, practical and production oriented low and middle level skilled manpower who will effectively maintain the steel and allied sectors of the economy, including oil and gas

 

Our Mission

To create a pool of indigenous technical workforce that can erect, commission, operate and maintain the steel and allied industries all on their own, and drastically cut down on Nigeria’s dependence on foreign technical training.

 

Our Mandate

The mandates of the Institute are as follows:

  1. Training of low and middle level technical manpower in maintenance and repair works for the steel and allied industries including oil and gas sector in Nigeria
  2. Creating a pool of indigenous technical workforce that can erect, commission, operate and maintain the steel industries, thereby reducing Nigerian dependence on foreign technical workforce
  3. Further training of skilled personnel already employed in Steel and Allied Industries
  4. Advisory services to firms in the implementation of their training programmes, especially as regards In- Plant training.
